BKR Sponsors a Familiy in Need After Tragic Accident

Through BKR's partnership with La Plaza (a Hispanic organization serving, empowering and integrating the community in Central Indiana) we were made aware of the great need that a young mother named Maria Benitez-Acateco is facing.

She was a victim of a very tragic accident on October 11. She was a victim of a hit and run. (Indy Channel)(WTHR) She was 9 months pregnant at the time and she was dragged under the truck for 100 feet. The driver pulled her out of his truck and drove away. Due to the seriuosness of her accident, her baby was delivered by an emergency C-section. The baby is in perfect condition, but she was in a coma for a few days and has undergone numerious surgeries and has to suffer a few more.

During her time at the hospital, her husband left her and took all their savings with him. When the baby was released from the hospital, Maria's parents took the task of caring for the newborn and traveling everyday to the hospital to visit Maria and bring the baby with them. They both lost their jobs due to their multiple absences.

Maria is now out of the hospital. Her parents are taking care of her and the baby and they are living in the house with two other teenage children and 2 more siblings who are the only ones working and supporting the family. La Plaza has been very intstrumental in helping them with their immediate needs but they were looking for a company to "adopt them" during the holiday season.

BKR decided to sponsor this family and donated clothes, diapers, formula, TVs, and other things to help this family out during their time of need. We are very happy to give to this family and wish them the best in their difficult time.
